What happened?
Hurricane Camille struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast on August 17, 1969, devastating Point Cadet and much of Biloxi. Many waterfront businesses, including the Marine Life attraction, suffered catastrophic damage. The tourism district was rebuilt over time, and today the area is occupied by parks, marinas, museums, and casino resorts rather than the family attractions seen in this postcard.
Interesting detail
The slogan "Hurry Back!" printed on the lower left was a common feature on postcards sold by local chambers of commerce during the 1950s and 1960s, encouraging repeat tourism to Mississippi's Gulf Coast.
